Exciting news for Eastbourne Arndale Centre

Plans for the development of a new nine-screen cinema and seven restaurants as part of the proposed extension to the Eastbourne Arndale Centre will be unveiled at a public consultation on Tuesday December 3. If approved, the enhanced scheme will bring a significant boost to Eastbourne's night-time economy as well as acting as an important catalyst for the town's wider regeneration.

The cinema and restaurants will form an additional element to the Arndale Centre's existing extension proposals, which plan to bring around 22 new stores and extra car parking spaces to the Centre and which already received unanimous support at the planning committee last year.

The consultation, which is to be held in the Arndale Centre, outside Top Shop, from 10am until 4pm on Tuesday, will provide further details of how the cinema and restaurants would be seamlessly integrated into the new extension and how the enlarged Arndale Centre could look. It is also an important opportunity for residents and shoppers to provide feedback on the upgraded plans.

The new proposed additions to the scheme would raise owner of the Eastbourne Arndale Centre's, Legal & General, total investment to £85 million.

Simon Russian, Head of retail development at Legal & General Property, said: "We are delighted to announce plans for a new multi-screen cinema and seven restaurants at the Arndale Centre as part of the extension. The aim of the consultation is to hear people's views on the proposed enhancements to the scheme, therefore we hope as many people as possible will provide us with their feedback.

"We believe that this addition will provide an important boost to Eastbourne's night-time economy and that the enlarged overall scheme will help to regenerate the wider town acting as a major catalyst that drives further investment and improvements to the town centre."

Leader of the Council, Cllr David Tutt, said: "This is an exciting addition to the Arndale proposals which will provide additional leisure facilities in the town centre and hopefully provide some of the eateries that many young people in Eastbourne have been asking for".
